Genesis 1:1
Sermon: “In the Beginning, God”
Text: Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Introduction
Genesis 1:1 is one of the most powerful verses in the Bible. With just ten words, God introduces Himself—not with an explanation, but with authority. The Bible does not begin with arguments or debates; it begins with God. Before history, before time, before man—God already was.
1. “In the beginning” – God is Eternal
This phrase reminds us that God has no beginning and no end. Time began, but God did not.
Life may change, governments may fail, and people may disappoint us—but God remains the same.
Lesson:
When your life feels uncertain, remember you serve a God who stands outside time and controls it.
📖 Psalm 90:2 – “From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
2. “God” – The Supreme Authority
The Bible does not introduce God; it assumes Him. God does not need validation from humans. He is self-existent and all-powerful.
Lesson:
Many people trust money, education, or connections—but true security begins with God.
📖 Isaiah 45:5 – “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
3. “Created” – God is the Source of All Things
Creation did not come by accident; it came by divine command. God spoke, and things that did not exist came into being.
Lesson:
If God can create the universe out of nothing, He can create hope out of your pain, and purpose out of your confusion.
📖 Hebrews 11:3 – “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command.”
4. “The heaven and the earth” – God Owns Everything
Heaven represents the spiritual realm; earth represents the physical world. God rules over both the seen and the unseen.
Lesson:
No situation is beyond God’s reach—whether spiritual or physical, God is in control.
📖 Psalm 24:1 – “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”
Conclusion
Genesis 1:1 teaches us one clear truth: Life begins with God.
When God is at the beginning of your life, He will also be at the end—guiding, sustaining, and glorifying you.
